Module Ten - Blog: Video Review

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above. The reasons I selected these videos were both for the same reasons, I reelected African Art: Legacy of Oppression and the video African Art because I wanted to see some more detailed examples of African art and it application.  2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. For the video “African Art: Legacy of Oppression”, key things I picked up are that the art they created often reflected their views of westerners and western society, also that the art that is usually taking from the country consist if primitive people.  As for the video “Art Africa” I learned that their art plays a role in everyday life and their practices, it also connects times to the spiritual world. 3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text? They both relate in the many ways such as the use of masks, and how the mask describes them self, surrounding and the different...

Module Nine - Blog: Video Reviews

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above. I choose the videos the video “ The Power of Art: Caravaggio ” because, it talks about the passion that the artist has for his body of work. I also picked the video “ The Greek Awakening: Art from the 5th Century BC ”, I mainly decided on this because of it length, it being the shortest video. 2 . For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. The keys concepts I learned from “The Power of Art: Caravaggio” are that; the artist never wanted his pieces to be publicly viewed and so destroyed many of them, he was very fixated on the perfect athletic bodies, and that he carried a sense of mystery about himself which turned out to make his works more valuable. As for “The Greek Awakening: Art from the 5th Century BC” l learned that a movement of realism in art started among Greek culture in that time, at that time there was more of a focus on pottery and not paintings, lastly th...

Module Nine - Art Making/Material Exploration Drawings

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing? I enjoyed using my hands as the subject I always struggled drawing hands and found this as the perfect opportunity to get some practice in also it was interesting trying to get all the details correct. 2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why? For my medium I used a pencil because I am a bad drawer, so I knew I would make a lot of mistakes and a pencil would be more easy to work with and erase. 3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand? It was a horrible experience, I struggled on every line, curve, shade and little detail I tried to put in, also it felt so unresponsive compared to my dominant hand. 4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies? Yes, they are at least for the one done with my dominant hand the other might be considered a fail. 5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork ...

Video Review Video : “More Human Than Human” and “The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figures”. 1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.                 The video "The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figures” was my first video, I really choses this video because it was the first link I got too work, also after checking the other entries this came up to the smallest run time. The other video was already chosen for me. 2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. For the video “The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figures” I learned key concepts such as how the Greeks used art to create images/sculptors that show that cultures perspective of self. This also shows how the people of that time compared their bodies and figures to each other and the art that created is a reflection of that idea. The se...

Module 7 - Blog: Video Review

Video: Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art 1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.  There are different concepts that I learned from this video, these concepts ranged from the use of digital models, building using emotion and the fact that an architecture wants all work to be unique. 2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text? It relates in the fact that Frank Gehry was one of the first to use digital design and manufacturing, he used this instead of sketching like all architects of that time were doing. Both the book and the video talked about him and gave a larger view of his work by focusing on different perspectives. 3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture? Unlike the book this I felt gave far more information and a better visual representation of the process and look of using digital design. 4. Why did you choose the films that you watched? I chose this film because I really wa...

Reviewing Peer Responses to Artwork

1. Hyperlink the Blogs you reviewed into your Blog Travis Williams https://travartreflect.blogspot.com/?m=1  Carly Repka http://repkacarly.blogspot.com/2017/09/logo.html 2. When looking at Project #1: (Elements and Principles), did you agree with the element or principle the artist listed with the images? Did you see other elements and principles in the images? Yes I did find in both these projects, both of these individuals did a very good job of showing their Elements and Principals, especially Travis. It seem as if he had a lot of experience doing this, not to knock Carly who's picture are very well taken and thought about. 3. When looking at Project #2: Where there any images in the Peer Blogs the same as your own? If yes, what were they? Where the reasons the image was selected the same or different as your own? Yes in Travis"s Blog there was the image of the swirling hands, the reasons were different but we both found it interesting. 4. Where th...

Module Six - Blog: Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. The video "Through the Eyes of the Sculptor" I learned many different things such as  the fact that different individuals used to work on different parts of a sculpture for different reasons, before doing a project there is prior drawings, modeling and clay work done, and they used bridges for hanging there marble to work on. The video "Glass and Ceramics" thought me that cementation helps add  color to glass art, glass is made fro, heating sand to a extremely high temperature, tempered creates a glass that inst sharp "ie phone screen protector"  and Lead is used to keep glass sharp. 2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text? The way in which this relates to the is that they describe the ways, aspects, processes and structure of creating different pieces of art which were glass and sculptures. Also that there more elements being put into the creation of these than would be th...

Project #2 Art Gallery Visit #1

The two art pieces that made an impact on me from my visit to the Albright Knox are as followed in this order " The Marvelous Sauce" by Jenhan Geogres Vibert in 1890, done with Oil on wood panel, the second piece was "Tempest in Red" Sandra cinto in 1969, done with acrylic and permanent pen on canvas. The piece it made an impact on me because I found it so funny and full of life, unlike all the other art pieces i found that day this one made me smile as soon as I saw it and looking at these characters made me wonder what is in that sauce. The second piece on the other hand simply garbbed my attention for its visual beauty, its use of lines pull me in and had me lost captivated, reminding me of a very intense sea storm. Art pieces I feel the most connected with are as follows "Carnival of Harlequin" by Joan Miro in 1925, done with Oil on Canvas, and the second piece " Twirling Hands" by James Drake in 1996, done w...

Art Making/Material Exploration #2 Logo

Final Logo    Creating my logo, the thought process for me I initially found this as a very difficult challenge. Coming up with an idea was the most difficult part, at first i tried to make it based on the blog after which I decided it was better to go with something describing myself. Overall i did enjoy the experience and the creativeness it brought out in me.     My logo design had 5 different steps in its creation First was the initial premise of "understanding art" and the page of sketches that followed(not included). Second was more of a thought process for me, while after switching the focus of my logo to my self I brainstormed what stands out to me about my self. Step three was now creating sketches and ideas for my two ideas which were, "my personality being made up of different aspects" and the one I went with "Me having three R's in my name". Step four and Five to finish it off consisted of a initial and final sketch.    T...

Art Making/Material Exploration #1: Exploring Value and The Subtractive Color Theory Blog

1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel. Beginning this assignment was not as bad as i thought it would be, after reading the chapter and watching the videos i seen that the creation of this should be simple and not too time consuming. The color wheel even though simple took me two attempts because i kind of struggled mixing the colors together.   2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why? I think i enjoyed the value scale better than the color wheel, this is mainly based on the fact that i found it so much easier to create, for the value scale i just needed to make sure each box was darker or lighter than the adjacent box.  3. What was the most important discovery in the creation of these studies? For me the most important discovery i made was seeing how the primary colors i used can be so simple influence and changed into something else, and for the value scale seeing how much different shades i could create just...

Project #1: Elements and Principles Slideshow Reflection

Doing this assignments was very challenging for me, the only easy part to this assignment was creating my Photobucket account, which was as simple as it get. The assignment on the other hand was hard with its fourteen different concepts of art this was so challenging that I still don't think I completed it very well. Starting off my assignment I first read the pages in the book to gain a better understanding of the elements and principals I was to take pictures of. After which came the first difficult task for which was to find real world inspiration that relate to my topic. Taking pictures was like a day and a half process constantly deleting, re-taking and posting over and over again, after which it was just a matter of trying to accurately put the slideshow together, which was also difficult. This assignment showed me that I struggle with understanding art concepts in my own way. Album http://s1383.photobucket.com/user/alkatek/library/Mobile%20Uploads/Elements%20and%20Princ...

Module #3

1. Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting.  Color has a surprising effect on emotions . The video "Color" illustrates this idea in two different ways, first being how every different color is used to describe the feel of the place and gives individuals in the painting life and feeling as if there expressing there own emotions. Secondly would be its ability cause emotion in real people. Different lighting, shades and intensity of different colors creates emotions in the viewers of that art piece. Seeing the differences in the colors presented can promote different feelings such as sadness, pleasure, pain, sorrow, happiness, joy, guilt, love and many more just based on the way it is presented. 2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why? The aspect of color that most intrigues me is the use of the reflection of color onto other objects, as in the "Color" video...

Module 2- Art understanding begins

This week was jammed packed with information which builds a basses of understanding art. First is the video " Aestheics : Philosophy of Arts" talks about the beauty of art and how this concept of understanding art started. Beginning in the middle age they talk about its connection to god and how key figures such as " Plato, Francis Hutcheson Tolstoy and other came to effect this.  There  we' re  principals  or laws  establish;  these laws talk about   the way individuals can discuss  and  interrupt  the art. The video goes on to describe how art is based on  different  types  of beauty such as Nature as a  natural  form of beauty and how emotions are tied into all aspects of creating and observing beauty in art.  This was during the time of the 18 th  century when  aestheics  came into the world,  this  era was a very  peaceful  and individuals developed a very  roma...
